Southern Federal University - winner of the International University Cup - 2023

March 19 on the basis of an online chess platform lichess.org a large-scale student tournament was held - the University Cup. 77 teams of educational institutions from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan took part in the competition. As a result of the confrontation in 11 rounds, the winner was the team of Southern Federal University (Rostov-on-Don, consisting of: Vladislav Sipetin, Nikolai Pavlov, Maxim Alpin). Rostov residents scored 26.5 points out of 33 possible. Silver medals were won by the strongest student team of Belarus from the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture (consisting of: Vyacheslav Zarubitsky, Varavara Polyakova, Ksenia Zelentsova) with a score of 25.5 points. The third and fourth places with a score of 23.5 points were shared by two teams, but according to additional indicators, the Russian University of Transport (Moscow, consisting of Ivan Yeletsky, Akmalkhon Mukhitdinov, Bogdan Ripsky) were ahead of the South Ural State University (Chelyabinsk, consisting of: Kirill Somkin, Rodion Radzhabov, Kirill Lushnikov). The International Chess Online Business League held the student tournament for the first time and having received numerous positive reviews about the tournament, it was now decided to hold it every six months. Therefore, the next University Cup is scheduled for autumn 2023.
